A view from the portside of the bridge looking back at the pack ice.

A view of the loose pack ice stretching into the distance taken from the portside of the bridge on board the ice breaker Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975). Some of the ice is discoloured from contact with the land and pollution. The icebreaker's track can be seen through the ice. On the left is the black, blue and white striped funnel with the Polar bear emblem of the Murmansk Shipping Company on the side.

On 25 July the ice breaker sailed though the Beaufort Sea, passing pack ice. Ivy Sharp spent time watching the ice: 'For the first time since I started this voyage the sun is shining. The cloudless sky and small ice packs make it a dazzling sight so I am now going up to the bridge to see what's what: the time is 645am.'
