A view of the broken ice floes and loose pack ice taken from the deck of the Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975)

A view of the broken ice taken from the deck of the ice breaker Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975). This is a similar view to PM11765/16, which is a closer view of the ice.

On 25 July the ice breaker sailed though the Beaufort Sea, passing pack ice. Ivy Sharp spent time watching the ice: 'For the first time since I started this voyage the sun is shining. The cloudless sky and small ice packs make it a dazzling sight so I am now going up to the bridge to see what's what: the time is 645am.'
