The Canada Customs Warehouse and Northern Whaling & Trading Company Store building entrances on Herschel Island
The Canada Customs Warehouse and Northern Whaling & Trading Company Store building entrances on Herschel Island. A passenger has his back to the camera as he walks towards the buildings.
The Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975) anchored off Pauline Cove near the abandoned whaling settlement on Herschel Island. Ivy Sharp recorded: 'At Herschal [sic] Island we saw various whalers' huts some built in the 19th century and the rest about 1926. There were various areas surrounded by staves intended for whalers to erect their tents, the wood operating as wind breaks.'
