Two passengers talking with the Inuit guide outside the Canada Customs Warehouse building, Herschel Island
A passenger standing outside a modern large high-sided tent erected near the abandoned buildings on Herschel Island.
The Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975) anchored off Pauline Cove near the abandoned whaling settlement on Herschel Island. Ivy Sharp recorded: 'At Herschal [sic] Island we saw various whalers' huts some built in the 19th century and the rest about 1926. There were various areas surrounded by staves intended for whalers to erect their tents, the wood operating as wind breaks.'
