A Black-legged Kittiwake standing on a piece of ice floe, taken from the Zodiac.
A Black-legged Kittiwake standing on a tall block of ice floe taken from the Zodiac as it ferried passengers to Prince Leopold Island. Other large blocks of ice are in the foreground.
Ivy Sharp wrote for 3 August: "It is 7.30am and we are off Prince Leopold Island by zodiac - right through the ice. In brilliant sunshine and freezing temperatures the iceflows (sic) are most impressive, nor do the birds show any fear."
