On board the ocean weather ship Weather Reporter (1944) on station in the North Atlantic. The photographer is looking forward on the starboard side of the deck amidships showing a two ring officer putting the outer container of a mail canister into a canvas bag while a crewman is looking into the mail canister and another is coiling the retrieving line. The mail canister had been dropped into the Atlantic by a Shackleton maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
