On board the United States Navy aircraft carrier Wasp (1943) under way in the North Atlantic. The photographer is on the centre line of the flight deck just forward of the island superstructure looking aft and slightly to starboard. Grumman S2-E Tracker aircraft are parked with wings folded alongside and abaft the island, the nearest two aircraft being coded 15 and 38, and they are units of the Carrier Antisubmarine Warfare Air Group 52. The ship's hull number 18 is painted on the side of the island.
