On board the Royal Navy aircraft carrier Eagle (1946) on passage west in the Mediterranean. The photographer is on the centreline of the flight deck abaft the island looking forward and to starboard showing the island superstructure with the Fairey Gannet AEW.3 aircraft XL493, coded 437/E, of 849D Flight parked with its wings folded next to the island. Another Gannet and a few De Havilland Sea Vixen FAW.1 aircraft of 899 Squadron are in the forward deck park. The Eagle's pendant number is R05.
