'Southern Cross in the ice pack'

A port stern view of the exploration ship Southern Cross (1886) alongside pack ice. To the left is a camera on a tripod with sledge dogs waiting behind it. Another group of dogs are waiting on the ice off the port side of the ship. Two men are standing on the ice off the stern, one bending over picking something up. Two dogs are loose, one close the men and the second is walking on the ice on the otherside of the open water off the ship.

Original print in the album captioned 'Southern Cross in the ice pack'.
