Maltese Dghaisa

Wooden carvel-built Maltese Dghaisa, made in Gozo, Malta in around 1870. A traditional harbour boat used for collecting the 'gash' or rubbish disposed of by visiting ships, from which anything of value was salvaged for re-sale or re-use.
