Bamboo rafts on a canal in Batavia, Java, Indonesia

Bamboo rafts on a canal in Batavia, Java, Indonesia. Some of these rafts are carrying a cargo of large bamboo poles. Women are sitting on the outboard rafts doing their washing which they have carried to the canal in wicker baskets. Three men are up to their necks in the water between the two rows of rafts. Cyclists and horse-drawn carts are on the road and on the left is a trader with a large number of birds for sale in cages. An hotel is in the background.
