Crowds of people on the passenger landing pier at Funchal, Madeira.
Crowds of people on the passenger landing pier at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is standing at the foot of the Avenue Zarco looking south along the pier. Two passenger cruise ships are at anchor offshore and the furthest out is the 2-funnelled Columbus (1922) of Norddeutscher Lloyd, shown when still fitted with triple expansion engines and tall funnels. These were replaced with geared turbines and short funnels in the autumn of 1929. A vertical format negative.
