Bumboats alongside the Cunard Line passenger cruise ship Lancastria (1922) in the anchorage at Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is on the starboard side of the aft deck of the ship looking forward and down showing a large number of bumboats gathered near the ship's side and a motor tender which is full of passengers. The traders are bartering wickerwork chairs and baskets and embroidered and lace products. Some of the boats contain children who are hoping for monetary gifts from the tourists. Two model boats are in the water.
