The waterfront at the eastern end of Funchal, Madeira. The photographer is in the passenger landing pier looking east-by-north showing a number of passenger motor launches, including boats named Portuguesa and Esperanca, and a large espada single masted fishing boat at moorings offshore. A number of other boats are drawn up on shore. A large warehouse or factory building with a circular brick chimney is to the left of centre and on the right is the Fotaleza de Sao Tiago.
