On board a Swedish American Line passenger cruise ship leaving Pier 97 at New York.

On board a Swedish American Line passenger cruise ship, either the Gripsholm (1925) or the Kungsholm (1928), leaving Pier 97 at New York. The photographer is looking forward from the centreline of the boat deck in front of the bridge showing passengers and crew looking towards the pier which is at the end of West 57th Street. The pier is shared by the Swedish American Line and the Italian Line. Alongside Pier 95 at West 55th Street is the passenger liner Monarch of Bermuda (1931) which operated a service between New York and Bermuda. The Empire State Building is in the background.
