A night time view of the Huangpu River at Shanghai, China. The photographer is looking south-west across the bend in the river to the Bund. The illuminated clock in the tower of the Custom House stands out to the left of centre. the building with the spire roof in the centre is Sassoon house completed in 1929 and next to it on the right is the China Bank Headquarters under construction. This building was commenced in October 1936 and was topped out at the end of 1937. A passenger steamer is in the right foreground.
