The Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cruise ship Viceroy of India (1929) anchored off a landing place at Spitsbergen, Norway. The photographer is on shore looking towards the starboard bow of the ship which is almost hidden by a man and two of the ship's officers who are landing from one of her boats, the motor tender F. The landing stage is the hulk of a wooden ship which is connected to a walkway by a narrow footplank. The walkway has two men on it and is supported by a cylindrical riveted steel object.
