Spritsail barges, bawleys, smacks and other sailing craft assembled in the River Medway, Kent, presumably at the start of a Medway Barge Match. The vessels are facing in many different directions and all are under sail. On the left, seen from off her starboard beam and with a Hoseasons logo on her topsail is the Xylonite (1926) and beyond her is a barge with a Cross Keys logo. In the centre and also seen from off her starboard beam is a barge with white sails and a drawing of a crowned head in the topsail. Beyond her is a barge with RDL in the topsail.
