The crowded quayside at Berth 10 on Swettenham Quay in Penang harbour, Malaysia. The photographer is on board the British India Steam Navigation Company passenger/cargo liner Rajula (1926) looking forward and down from the port side showing an accommodation ladder rigged to the promenade deck and a brow rigged to a shell door amidships. Passengers are embarking over the brow and the quayside is thronged with passengers carrying their baggage, suitcases and trunks. Number 10 corrugated iron shed backs the quay and stacks of steel oil drums are alongside the shed. Fort Cornwallis lighthouse is in the background.
