A slightly distant port side view, taken from well abaft the beam, of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company cargo liner Somali (1948) under way in Southampton Water, passing the Eastern Docks, bound in. She is flying the yellow "Free pratique" flag from the bridge halyard and is being escorted by the steam tug Gladstone (1951), which is also seen from abaft her port beam. The Itchen Quays are on the right with the port signal station by Berth 37. Transparency number PCT1388 was taken on the same occasion.
