On board the Bank Line general cargo ship Inverbank (1924) passing into the west side second chamber of Gatun Lock, Panama Canal, from the Atlantic. The photographer is looking aft from the starboard side of the poop house showing the first lock gate closed. The ship is en route from Jacksonville, Florida, to San Diego, California, for bunkers before crossing the Pacific to Kamaishi, Japan, with a cargo of scrap iron. Slide 8 from the "Apprentice Boy", Captain Henry P. Bird's lecture about his life as an apprentice for Bank Line in the period 1937-1941. The lecture consists of 39 slides.
