The photographer is in the fighting top of the Japanese battleship Shikishima (1898) looking down on the port side and boat deck of the Albion. A track mounted crane has been erected on the deck and a number of machinery spaces ventilators have been placed in position. The mainmast and after bridge have been installed and the main topmast has been fitted in the lowered position. A two-masted, single funnelled cargo ship is alongside the eastern-most berth in the Royal Victoria Dock. A note on the negative says the photographer is using the New Camera and is looking towards the Royal Albert Dock.
