The Lower Pool, River Thames, at Rotherhithe, London.
The Lower Pool, River Thames, at Rotherhithe, London. The photographer is looking west from on board an excursion vessel that is heading downstream. Two Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Company vessels are alongside the Free Trade Wharf, Shadwell, on the right. They are seen from off the starboard bow and the general cargo coaster Wendy (1913) is berthed outboard of the short sea passenger/cargo liner Bernicia (1923). The swim-headed lighter Lea is being sculled across the river in the foreground. The Rotherhithe Tunnel ventilation shaft is on the left with the steeple of St. Paul's Church, Shadwell, to the right of it.
