A view of a Norwegian tanker alongside a berth in Port de Bouc, Lavera, France, taken from on board the tanker Malwa (1961). The photographer is standing on the port side of the bridge deck looking to port. The Norwegian tanker bears a black topped yellow coloured funnel with the emblem of a white flag with a black cross and a white five-pointed star in the middle. A French flag is flying from the starboard yardarm. A Norwegian ensign is flying from the gaff. The yellow international signal flag for 'Q' [meaning My vessel is healthy and I request free pratique] is flying from the port yardarm. Two crewmen are on the upper poop deck on the starboard side of the tanker. A stone jetty is in the middle ground off the port side of the Norwegian tanker. Fort de Bouc is in the background on the left hand side. The opposite bank of Port de Bouc is in the background on the right hand side of the image. This is Slide 63 of a lecture given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Senior Second Officer and Navigator on board the tanker Malwa (1961), owned by the P&O Group, from 14 November 1963 to 9 March 1964. The lecture consists of 75 slides.
