Blackwall Reach
A busy shipping scene on the Thames at Blackwall Reach. A large steamer is surrounded by barges, lighters and a tug. The industrial skyline of the port's hinterland can be seen in the distance. Wyllie (1851-1931) was one of the most prominent Thames artists. He sailed its length from London to the sea and painted, drew and etched most of its features – its craft, people and landscape.
