A port broadside view of Morning alongside the ice shelf in McMurdo Sound.

A port broadside view of relief ship Morning (1871) alongside the ice shelf in McMurdo Sound. A group of men on skis in conversation, with two dogs nearby, are in the foreground.

After Morning's arrival on 24 January, they found that Discovery (1901) was icebound in McMurdo Sound and so started unloading and sledging over provisions for the stricken vessel.

The slide is a cropped version of the original photograph by Charles Reginald Ford. The slide is cracked.
