Inside the hut at Cape Evans, Dr. Atkinson, smoking a pipe, stands in his parasitological laboratory. Holding up a test tube, he stands before his bench "covered with test tubes, microscope, etc.". Dr. Atkinson's laboratory was "on the south side of [Ponting's] dark room", on top of which, he kept his incubators for bacteria culture.
