The County Hall in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. The photographer is standing on the opposite side of the street looking towards the building. The front of the building has the words 'Cairns Council' carved into the stone and 7 white stone pillars are on the porch in the entrance. There is a large blue plaque commmerating the first one hundred years of Cairns fastened on the overhang roof of the building. A small wall and trees go round the boundary of the county hall. Mountain ranges are in the far background. This is Slide 34 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer for the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by Commercial Cable Company of London from 26 November 1975 to 24 April 1976. This series consists of 33 surviving slides.
