A float helicopter flying near the stern of the suction hopper dredger W.D. Gateway (1969) in the Beafort Sea. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the bridge looking aft and to starboard. The helicopter has the logo of the ERA Helicopters Inc air charter company painted on the tail. According to the photographer's autobiography, the helicopter had been sent to find W.D. Gateway due to a communications blackout to find the vessel waiting for an opening in the ice floes.
