Dockyard Creek and Fort St Angelo, Vittoriosa, Malta

Looking north-west-by-west down Dockyard Creek, Malta, to Fort St Angelo from the top of the south portico near the police house on the Vittoriosa shore. The Admiral Superintendent's residence is on the right with his steam barge moored alongside the jetty. The barge has the Rear-Admiral's flag painted on the bow (Rear-Admiral Sackville H Carden). The figurehead on the north portico is thought to be that of the screw sloop Lark (1852), which was formerly named Cruizer (1852). Alongside Fort St Angelo is the accommodation hulk Cruiser (1879) and ahead of her is the destroyer Garry (1905). Moored in the creek is the submarine B9 (1906) with the pendant 29 and on her left is the submarine B11 (1906) with the pendant 00. Valletta is in the background with the Barracca on the left. Berry's notebook says the photograph was taken at 09.30.
