Trials of underwater cutting apparatus in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
A large steel plate riveted to angle pieces used as a test piece for underwater cutting apparatus trials in Portsmouth Dockyard. The test piece has been photographed on a roadway next to a dry dock in the dockyard. The date 12.5.38 has been written on the plate which has a cut on the left side, a rectangular hole cut out in the centre and a section cut out from the right side. See negative number N24740 for another view of this plate after further cutting. A ship in the background is dressed overall, possible to commemmorate the first anniversary of the coronation of King George VI.
