Trials of underwater cutting apparatus in Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

A large steel plate riveted to angle pieces used as a test piece for underwater cutting apparatus trials in Portsmouth Dockyard. The test piece has been photographed on a roadway next to a dry dock in the dockyard. The date 12.5.38 has been written on the plate. The entire top section of the plate has been cut away from the angle pieces. See negative number N24739 for another view of this plate before cutting. A ship in the background is dressed overall, possible to commemmorate the first anniversary of the coronation of King George VI.
