Working on the light cruiser Achilles (1932) in No. 14 Dry Dock, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire.
A port side view, taken from just abaft the beam, of the funnel and bridge of the light cruiser Achilles (1932) which is in No. 14 Dry Dock in Portsmouth Dockyard. The tripod foremast and the bridge are surrounded by scaffolding. New blast screens for the twin 4 inch guns have been fitted on the forecastle deck abreast the funnel. Her directors have been removed from the bridge. A building in the left foreground is obscuring the forward turrets of the Achilles (1932). The photographer is standing on the roof of a small building well back from the dockside. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register number P187/43 has been written near the bottom, left of centre, of the negative.
