A damaged 15 inch gun barrel in the Gun Barrel Park, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire

Looking at a 15 inch gun barrel in the Gun Barrel Park in the north-east corner of Portsmouth Dockyard from near the muzzle of the gun, showing the fractured jacket to the gun. The gun's outer cradle collar is on the right and the muzzle is off to the left. This gun was the right gun from the monitor Roberts (1941) which had fractured its jacket off the Normandy beaches on 6 Jun. 1944. The jacket was kept in place by strapping it with wire rope and the marks made by the rope can be seen on the jacket.
