A damaged 15 inch gun barrel in the Gun Barrel Park, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking along the length of a 15 inch gun barrel in the Gun Barrel Park in the north-east corner of Portsmouth Dockyard, showing the fractured jacket to the gun. The photographer is standing on the muzzle of the gun. This gun was the right gun from the monitor Roberts (1941) which had fractured its jacket off the Normandy beaches on 6 Jun. 1944. The jacket was kept in place by strapping it with wire rope. There is a large calibre gun barrel with breech plate on the left and two barrels on the right, one small and one large.
