A starboard side view of damage repairs being undertaken to the hull amidships of the U S tank landing ship LST 543 (1944) in dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard, taken from the top of the dock looking forward and to port. A large section of plating from the turn of the bilge up the fifth strake has been removed by oxy-acetylene cutting torch and a man is using a torch to work on the 2nd strake. Wooden staging has been erected to facilitate the work. An area of plating on the 4th and 5th strakes has been delineated for burning.
