The construction of a new caisson for Singapore's King George VI Dry Dock in A Lock, Portsmouth Dockyard. The photographer is looking east-by-south from the north side centre of the top of the lock. The main plating appears to be complete. Two scotch cranes are on either side of the lock at the east end. Berthed in No. 3 Basin is the Ranpura (1924) undergoing conversion to a heavy repair ship.
