Looking north-north-east across No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, from an elevated position in the south-west corner. On the right, beyond the 250 ton hammerhead crane is the cruiser Aurora (1936) and the fleet oiler Wave Prince (1945). Alongside the north side of the basin is the cruiser Ceylon (1942) with a crane lighter outboard. In the foreground berthed across the end of No. 9 Dry Dock is the destroyer Zest (1943) with the destroyer Nonsuch (ex-German Z38) (1941) outboard.
