North Wall, Fountain Lake, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
Looking north across North Wall in Portsmouth Dockyard, just west of the coaling berth at the east end of the Wall. The forepart of an unidentified coastal store carrier can be seen alongside the wall. In the background is the west end of Admiralty Floating Dock 11 (1924), in which the aircraft carrier Illustrious (1939) is undergoing a refit. In the left background is a Dido class cruiser moored stern-on to Whale Island.
