Loading a BTH transformer aboard the Toward (1947) in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, Hampshire
An 82 ton British Thompson Houston transformer being lowered by the 240 ton hammerhead crane on the Promontory in No. 3 Basin, Portsmouth Dockyard, into the hold of the Clyde Shipping Co's vessel Toward (1947) which is berthed outboard of a Wave class fleet oiler berthed on the south side of the Promontory. The photographer is looking down from the deck of the oiler. The negative has been exposed in reverse (the photographer loaded it into the camera the wrong way round).
