Inside the former tank deck of the experimental atomic and biological research ship Ben Lomond (1945) during her refit in Portsmouth Dockyard. The end of a large rectangular unit is on the right. The removable end panel of the unit is held in place by 28 handwheels, each handwheel being numbered to correspond with the order in which they are to be released. The bulkhead on the left has two scuttles, each of which is being used as a coat hanger by a dockyard matey. The deckhead is fitted with hoist rails. Vertical format.
