The Miracle of Dunkirk 3D Peep Show
Pop-up '3D peep show' entitled 'The Miracle of Dunkirk. Consisting of an outer box to contain the peep show, a fold-up 3D scene which slots into the outer box to hold it together. It comes with additional text describing the scene, a separate panorama scene of the beach at Dunkirk with lines of soldiers leading into the water. It also includes what are described as 'rub down instant pictures' - these are transfer sheets of a range of 'little ships', military vessels and planes that allow you to design your own scene.
Dennis Knight designed and often illustrated a series of educational peep show toys in the early 1970s, for publisher Patterson Blick Ltd, on a range of themes from historical events like this one, to flora and fauna of Britain. Many specifically address historic battles like the Battle of Britain, the Charge of the Light Brigade, D Day and the Battle of Waterloo. These educational toys or one of the ways younger generations were taught about the events of the Second World War.
