Surrendered Japanese soldiers passing along a Hong Kong street in a column

A black and white photograph showing surrendered Japanese soldiers passing along a Hong Kong street in a column. The first group in the column, about twelve men, is pushing a heavily loaded cart. They all wear army hats or helmets, boots and uniforms. Several have carrying sticks, rucksacks or bags. The second group walks behind them. The column recedes toward the top left corner of the image. The total number of Japanese soldiers in the photograph is at least 300. A British soldier, wearing an army helmet and light-coloured shorts, walks at the front left of the column. He holds a rifle with bayonet fitted in both hands, pointing it towards the Japanese men. Visible on the right in the image are various Chinese bystanders, along with columns of trees and building pillars. The Chinese characters on the second pillar from the right display the name of a shop that sells cotton goods, while those on the third and fourth pillars advertose a restirant, with 'tea and coffee' beneath. The photograph was taken from an elevated angle on the street. Original caption (typed beneath): 'Surrendered Japanese troops'.
