A black and white landscape photograph of ninteenth young men and boys, possibly Melanesian, outside a wooden building on Norfolk Island. All are dressed in shirts and trousers with barefeet. Most of the people shown are sat on the grass; others are leanding against the wall and three are standing. The wall of the building is made of wooden planking. Three of the figures stand in front of a glazed window on the left side of the image. Part of a wooden door with a keyhole is visible on the right side of image. Original caption (handwritten in ink beneath the photograph): 'Converts (?) of Western Pacific Islands at Norfolk Island. 1895'
