Launching buoy on August 8th in lat 51o 25'30'' long 38o 56' (marking spot where cable had been grappled)

Mounted with PAG8270.; No.2.
The buoy being let down from the 'Great Eastern' to mark the spot where the cable was lost in the Atlantic Ocean. The position was 51° 25'N 39° 6'W, 1,062 miles (1709 km) from Valentia and 606 miles (975 km) from Heart's Content, Newfoundland. After launching the bouy, the 'Great Eastern' turned for home.
