The Killarney Steamer as wrecked on Saturday 20th Jany 1838 in the vicinity of Kinsale
A lithograph showing the Killarney Steamer and her crew wrecked off some rocks near a cliff edge ‘on the west side of Flat Head’ near Kinsale, Ireland, on 20 January 1838, according to a documented source (Coastguard Letters, ‘Wreck of the Killarney Steamer’). The ship’s sheets are in a state of ruin and blowing violently in the wind whilst the crew attempt to clamber onto the rocks to the right. The ship is shown in port-quarter view. The tides are tempestuous.
Lloyds Register for 1833 lists the Killarney as belonging to the Steam Packet Co. and running between Dublin and Bristol.
