A pier-side scene by Thomas Goldsworth Dutton showing the ‘Kent’ (with passengers, in starboard-bow view) being towed past Gravesend by a paddle steamer on the right of the image. Her sails are in a furled state. Two Thames barges can be seen in the fore- and background in addition to several sailing vessels of various sizes and types. Surrounding the ‘Kent’ are many rowing boats with figures.
Lighter areas of the image have been tinted with white.
