Mrs James Ferguson, 18th century
A half-length portrait to right, with the sitter looking out at the viewer. She wears a fawn silk dress trimmed with lace, a rope of pearls around her neck and holds out a folded letter in her right hand. Her hair is powdered and she wears a jewel in it.
The painting is a 19th-century replica of a portrait painted in 1766-67. There is also a portrait of her husband Captain James Ferguson, in the collection, see BHC2688.
