Dutch rear squadron at anchor
On the left is a weather-quarter view of a kaag close-hauled on the starboard tack approaching a ship seen broadside at anchor with flag at the fore and pendant at the mizzen. On the right is a lee-bow view of a wijdschip close-hauled on the port tack. Beyond her is an admiral with pendant at the mizzen firing a salute.
The hatched shadows to leeward of the wijdschip and the flagship on the left are unusual and may be the work of the eighteenth century copyist of the drawing whose work is at Greenwich. This work has been approximately dated by the style and subject.
