Arab dhows at anchor
Print by W.R. Smith after H. Warren. It shows an Arab dhow (type of boat) at anchor with its crew resting on the bank. Two large sculpted seated figures mark the entrance to this port. The scene conforms to 19th century Europeans ideas about Arab culture and relaxation. One man plays a lute, while another smokes from a very long pipe.
